Strangers Eyes Pay no mind I’m just a dreamer mostly drifting with the wind. Putting stock into the notion happy’s how I wanna live. Takin’ their ridicule in stride just be yourself man toe the line. Long overdue that I stop tryin’ seein’ myself through strangers eyes. If you’re keen on waisting your days saving doubts up in your mind. Banking them two cent opinions just gonna leave you high and dry. For what it’s worth you’re doing fine just be yourself and walk the line. Long overdue that you stop tryin’ seein’ yourself through strangers eyes. For what it’s worth you’re doing fine just be yourself and walk the line. Hard To Dance (With The Devil On Your Back) It’s hard to dance with the devil on your back burning holes in the floor with that unholy two step best get yourself a preacher or a frozen knapsack cause’ it sure ain’t easy dancin’ with the devil on your back. Betty Lou was the prettiest in school and I’ll tell ya that girl knew how to dance. But with my two left feet and being slightly off beat for me and Betty there wasn’t gonna be a chance. Then I started pondering just like ole’ Robert Johnson to them crossroads I’d go and strike a deal. I’d ask ole’ Lucifer make me dance like Fred Astaire and in return this here soul you can steal! But it’s hard to dance with the devil on your back burning holes in the floor with that unholy two step best get yourself a preacher or a frozen knapsack cause’ it sure ain’t easy dancin’ with the devil on your back. Well boys, you know what happened next? I’m gonna tell ya. My legs they started tinglin’, my change it was a jinglin’, my hips they were a movin’, my feet they were a groovin’. Oh Lord, I think I could dance. Betty Lou come on over here girl. We jumped onto the dance floor and pop! My ankle, I think I broke my ankle, oh Betty Lou where you going? Come on girl, I’ll be ok, no come on! Well the devil grinned and said, “my boy that’s called the sinners spin and you just danced it better than any sinner than ever sinned, I think that you’ll be smokin’ hot on my fiery dance floor, so limp yourself on over because I think it’s time we go!” It’s hard to dance with the devil on your back burning holes in the floor with that unholy two step best get yourself a preacher or a frozen knapsack cause’ it sure ain’t easy dancin’ with the devil on your back.

Shape I'm In 03:15
Shape I’m In If this old world keeps messin’ with me I’m gonna move out into the trees. Cause’ packin’ up and leaving ain’t nothing you see I’s a been ramblin since I was a wee little thing. Because I’m tired, I’m broke, and worn thin, that’s the shape I’m in. Maybe I’ll sit out by the tracks hop up on a train gonna take me back again. I’ll look out at the sun settin’ in the sky watch it fall down back into the night. Because I’m tired, I’m broke, and worn thin, that’s the shape I’m in. Pick up the pieces put them back again no sense to keep going in the shape I’m in. Sometimes the easy way’s harder in the end the time you waste now you ain’t getting again. Because I’m tired, I’m broke, and worn thin, that’s the shape I’m in. If this ole world keeps messin’ with me then I’m gonna move out into the trees.

Rivertown 04:59
Rivertown This small town got me thinkin’ on some things. Just drivin’ around driven by a dream. Oh the two of us we were running wild we were running free. Chasing no direction dealing love out foolishly. When I saw you you were looking right back at me. Just giving some thought to asking you to leave here with me. Like a couple of used imports we were far from being rust free. But we both looked pretty damn good I’d say, considering. We’re gettin’ washed away by this Mississippi river town. Goin’ door to door trackin’ our salvation down. Living on the edge of a wasted chance, with you as my lover I got true romance. We’re getting there darlin’ and it just keeps getting better, ah it’s just getting better. I wanna dance with you under buckets of pourin’ rain. Just wash away this God forsaken responsibility. Grab up the kids, show them treasures they ain’t never seen. Stuff you cannot learn in school or staring at a damn TV! We’re gettin’ washed away by this Mississippi river town. Goin’ door to door trackin’ our salvation down. Living on the edge of a wasted chance, with you as my lover I got true romance. We’re getting there darlin’ and it just keeps getting better, ah it’s just getting better. This small town got me thinkin’ on some things. Just drivin’ around driven by a dream. Oh the two of us were never meant for placidity. So let’s head on the down the road and start living again cause’ we’re gettin’ mighty close to being... We’re gettin’ washed away by this Mississippi river town. Goin’ door to door trackin’ our salvation down. Living on the edge of a wasted chance, with you as my lover I got true romance. We’re getting there darlin’ and it just keeps getting better, ah it’s just getting better.

Coming Home 03:51
Coming Home I’m coming home. Twelve hundred miles. See me coming. Black smoke in the sky. I’ve been away, way to long. I’m a forgetting, her lovin’ arms. Hey ticket lady please ma’am help this lonesome son. I need a one way heading south, the two sixty one. See I got this letter here just yesterday. Sayin’, “child come back home please make haste”. It’s been a while. A long old while. Since I remember, her loving smile. It went away. Those years ago. When she was left with, not much to hold. Now these hours passing feels like slow rain. Oh washing down all over this damn train. How I’m wanting one more time next to you. Hear you whispering, “oh my child, mama loves you”. I’m going home. Twelve hundred miles. See me going. Black smoke in the sky. She passed away, way to soon. I never got to tell her....

Strange Shade of Red Morning falls again sky is clear. All the trees are still but she’s trembling. Her eyes see beauty but she can’t hide tears. What he took from her for all those years. Oh she trusted him with childish faith On the trips they took to that special place. How could she have known what lay in wait? His so called “bonding time” had a much different face. She’s had enough she’s had it up to here. What she had to do should have done now for years. And the shanty burns and the fish have been fed. And the boat outside is now painted a strange shade of red. Ocean breaks again on new sand as she washes him from her hands. Oh she breathes relief but cries out for the man. And leaves behind the boat now painted a strange shade of red. Cause’ she’s had enough she’s had it up to here. What she had to do should have done now for years. And the shanty burns and the fish have been fed. And the boat outside is now painted a strange shade of red.

Blueberry Man Up on top of a flatbed trailer I’m the blueberry man. I stay on the side roads where the police don’t go makin’ money to buy my gin. I smoke on a good pipe and dream of my wife, gave her last breath to our boy. I raised him up right he fought the good fight. Took a bullet for uncle Sam. They keep telling me, but I disagree, that my old ways have come and gone. So for the time being I’ll sit here dreaming dreams and be the blueberry man. “What’s your philosophy?”, the young ones ask me, well I just smile and take a sip. I figure that’s enough cause’ it don’t really matter much to an old man with a pipe on a flatbed. I went and voted once for my dog but she never won, it seemed redundant, at least to me. I guess I’ll try again when they put someone in that speaks the truth instead of shit. They keep telling me, but I disagree, that my old ways have come and gone. But this much is true them berries sure are blue and they ain’t changed one single bit. So for the time being I’ll sit here dreaming dreams and be the blueberry man.

St. Croix Ave I thought I was a super someone leaping over building tops. But then I crashed and burn to the ground now I’m spittin’ out dirt and rocks. Covered in the mud of pity for my dirty ole’ sorry self. But then that sweet sweet melody done knocked me on my head. Now I ride along sing my song having faith the road I’m on will one day lead me home. Take me to the baptistery dunk me down one two three Jesus gonna save my soul. Now I’m just a super no one leaping over building blocks. But no mistake my humble ways brought me fortune gold could never top. Trading my shiny cape for simple Simon brand clothes is fine. Living my life with no regret swaying to the rhythm that’s mine. Now I ride along sing my song having faith the road I’m on will one day lead me home. Double Jointed Hello my little darlin’ can you hear my song? I know it’s awfully quiet I don’t want to wake your ma. I’ve been feeling anxious waiting on you to show. A little more being patient then I will hold you close. Blue’s my favorite color in case you want to know. My thumbs are double jointed maybe yours will be also. But I’ll say this world it’s often strange. You can’t never tell just where you’re going. There’ll be those who’ll try to drag you down. Just remember, oh remember. You are something special there ain’t no one like you. Keep this front and center and it will guide you through. Keep this front and center and it will guide you through.

Missing You 04:43
Every time I think of you. I always catch my breath. But I’m still standing here, and you’re miles away, and I’m wondering why you left? And there’s a storm that’s raging, through my frozen heart tonight. I hear your name, in certain circles, and it always makes me smile. I spend my time, thinking about you, and it’s almost driving me wild. And it’s my heart that’s breaking, down this long distance line tonight. I ain’t missin’ you at all. Since you’ve been gone away. I ain’t missin’ you. No matter, what I might say. There’s a message in the wire, and I’m sending out this signal tonight. Cause you don’t know, how desperate I’ve become, and it looks like I’m losing this fight. Cause in your world I have no meaning, though I’m trying hard to understand. And it’s my heart that’s breaking, down this long distance line tonight. I ain’t missin’ you at all. Since you’ve been gone away. I ain’t missin’ you. No matter, what my friends say. And there’s a message that I’m sending out, like a telegraph to your soul. And if I can’t bridge this distance, stop this heartbrerak overload. I ain’t missin’ you at all. Since you’ve been gone away. I ain’t missin’ you. No matter, what my friends say. And there’s a storm that’s raging, through my frozen heart tonight. I ain’t missin’ you at all. Since you’ve been gone away. I ain’t missin’ you. No matter, what I might say.

St. Denis 03:23
St. Denis Meet me down on St. Denis where all the cobblestone turns to street. Outside the door of the Cafe Rouge where all the awnings are ironically blue. Wait right there, don’t wander free. Among the chaos on St. Denis. Black street lights won’t lead the way cause’ I am meeting you in the light of day. I’ll take you up to my retreat maybe talk a while over tea. Then we’ll make love oh so sweet. Above the chaos on St. Denis. I’m sure you’ll say, “it’s time to leave”, then I’m alone again on St. Denis. So please refrain and stay with me. We’ll fall in love again on St. Denis. We’ll fall in love again on St. Denis.

Where We Belong All this emptiness that I’m feeling. Can’t believe in if I do will pull me further away from you. All this sadness in the present. Does it belong? What brought it on so hard? Can we chase it away? Can we go back to the place nothing mattered nothing got in our way? Where our fences and defenses were down. Running free so free like the wind blowing down all them mountains of sin. That we created now abated and gone. We’re right where we belong. I’ve been sensing you’ve been restless. Trying to find that peace of mind you pushed back so far without a trace, keeping it safe. Why we hiding? What’s inside when we both know that we hold the key to everything, to everything! Can we go back to the place nothing mattered nothing got in our way? Where our fences and defenses were down. Running free so free like the wind blowing down all them mountains of sin. That we created now abated and gone. We’re right where we belong. Can we go back to the place nothing mattered nothing got in our way? Where our fences and defenses were down. Running free so free like the wind blowing down all them mountains of sin. That we created now abated and gone. We’re right where we belong. Right where we belong.
